Phoenix Lodge golf on tomorrow
The Phoenix Masonic Lodge, in association with Sterling Asset Management, will host its annual golf tournament tomorrow at the Constant Spring Golf Club. The tournament will be played off 18-hole individual Stableford of 7/8 handicap in four flights. Tee times are from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Last year, more than 80 golfers participated, including a number of the island's best players, with Paul Seaton being named the overall winner with a score of 41 points. He received a trophy and a Blackberry mobile telephone. On the other hand, the 2009 National Ladies Champion was Jodi Munn Barrow, who won a Nokia cellphone.
Proceeds from the annual tournament benefit the Masonic Children's Fund, National Disaster Fund, Port Royal Basic School and the Phoenix Lodge Port Royal Scholarship Fund.
Assistance
Among the recent scholarship recipients is Ramone Barnswell, who has graduated from the University of Technology. In addition, several high school students have received assistance through the Phoenix Lodge Port Royal Scholarship Fund. The Phoenix Lodge, with support from other organisations, has also made a positive impact on the lives of many residents of the Port Royal community, especially through the annual Christmas treat hosted by the Masonic Lodge at the Port Royal Basic School.
With sponsorship support this year from Sterling Asset Management, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary as a leader in wealth creation and management, the Phoenix Lodge is hoping that the proceeds realised from this year's golf tournament will be significant, to allow the Masonic Lodge to widen the base of the applicants who can be assisted through the scholarship fund.
