Sugar and spice

Published:Saturday | October 23, 2010 | 12:00 AM
Black is the colour of liquorice and also this eye candy.
Wear a solid pink or wear it witha design - you just can't go wrong!
Sashanna Lamey says: 'Syyle is never complete until you mix something sweet with something spicy.'
Pink is still a colour that's poppin' and popular among the females. It's a safe colour, as light and dark pinks look great on all complexions.
French tips are the icing on the cake, always a nice touch if you like simple and sweet.

Sugar and spice ... and everything nice - that's what all girls should be made of. At least, that's what getting manicures and pedicures are for.

So, girls, treat yourself to a sweet or spicy deal this month that will have you looking 'toe-tally' pretty and finger-lickin' good.

1. Choosing the right colour:

Remember, loud colours don't fit certain occasions, especially if you work in a very formal setting.

Aside from the occasion, think about your own style and personality. You don't want to stifle it, so choose a colour that best expresses you.

Also, complexion plays an important role in colour selection; make sure you choose colours that go well with your complexion.

2. Maintaining your mani-pedi:

Wear gloves when doing household chores to prevent the effects on the polish by harsh chemicals such as bleach and detergents.

Apply top coat lightly twice per week. You shouldn't require adding top coat every day, once you stay away from activities that chip your polish or erode its lustre.

Cuticle oil and hand moisturisers are your nails' best friends.

3. Additional steps:

Every step you take means that your feet, as well as your toenails, are being tortured. Remove dirt and massage your feet after a long day (a simple rub should do the trick).

If you happen to stain your nails with coffee, wine or lipstick, don't get upset or depressed. That will only push you to remove your nail colour. Old housewives' tips such as using dampened cloths and vinegar or alcohol and soaking in dishwashing liquid with a drop of hydrogen peroxide will remove these as easy as 1-2-3.

If you notice any strange marks, e.g., white spots or water bumps, it may be an indicator that you should discontinue use of your acrylic or nail polish brand. Continued use or nail treatments will leave skin bruised; use antifungal creams or ask your pharmacist to recommend an antibiotic ointment.

Name: Sashanna Lamey

Job experience: Spa coordinator for three years at the Nirvana Day Spa and Face to Face.

Beauty school: Lenora's School of Beauty

Why did you decide to get into a career where there are already so many persons practising the trade?

Sashanna: "My love for nail art and beauty therapy evolved while working at Nirvana. Instead of sitting down at the front desk, I'd be tempted to go to the nails department and watch. I'd like sitting in the chair and getting my nails done but it's a whole new feeling when I'm doing the nails.

"It's my way of expression. I won't let that aspect of my career deter me from expressing myself."

Sashanna is currently only available for door-to-door appointments and is in search for a location for rent to start her business. Contact: 860-3551 (mobile) or email lsashanna@yahoo.com.
