Book on Dube and Hill released in Britain
Remembering the passion of Hill, Dube The Passion of Music and Culture, a book looking at the legacy of reggae singers Joseph Hill and Lucky Dube, has been released in Britain and the United States.
British author Joel Savage wrote the book based on interviews he did with Hill and Dube. He examines the impact of their music globally, in the aftermath of their deaths.
Hill was best known as leader of the roots-reggae group, Culture, which had huge hit songs with Two Sevens Clash and I'm Not Ashamed.
He died in August 2006, from liver failure, at age 57.
Dube was, arguably, the biggest African reggae star. He recorded several acclaimed albums for Shanachie Records, a New York City label that distributed many albums by classic reggae acts including Culture, Augustus Pablo and the Wailing Souls.
Dube was murdered in Johannesburg in 2008.
