Romania (AP):
About 1,000 Romanian former army personnel have protested against government's austerity measures. Protesters say yesterday they oppose a new pension law that diminishes their income, and also requested the country cancels the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Romania took a €20 billion (US$27.72 billion) loan from the IMF, the European Union and the World Bank after its economy shrank by 7.1 per cent last year. Some of that money was used to pay pensions and wages. In return, the government had to cut spending drastically to keep the deficit at 6.8 per cent of gross domestic product in 2010.
