Jamaica's Davis Cup captain, Damion Johnson, will headline a list of top local tennis players who will be participating in this year's renewal of the Jamaica National/Police Officers' Tennis Club All-Jamaica Open at the the Police Officers' Tennis Club between tomorrow and Tuesday, November 9.

Johnson, who is expected to be seeded as number one at the tournament, will battle for the top prize with Adam Harris, Orick Angus, Youssuf Mitoko, Macoy Malcolm, Garnet Johnson and Richard Lee.

The tournament, which is being held for the first time in many years, will also see top juniors Andrew Bicknell and Simon Levy on parade, as they seek to pull off an upset or two against their senior counterparts.

"I am expecting a resuscitation of the sport, which is really one of the objectives of the tournament. The names we have down to compete speak for itself, and I am expecting it to be a very good and exciting tournament," said tournament director, C. Lloyd Allen.

"It's a complete mix of talent, and I am looking forward to the performances of the juniors in particular."

42 expected for main draw

The main draw, according to Allen, is expected feature 42 entrants, with participants in class one, two and three, who will compete for non-cash prizes, rounding off the overall expected figure of 123 entries.

The female category, according to Allen, is taking a while to fill up because of a decline of females playing the sport locally. However, he expects that come match day things will improve.

"We are inviting tennis-loving fans to come out and support the tournament, take a look at some of our top players locally," concluded Allen, who is a former Jamaica Davis Cup captain and president of Tennis Jamaica.
