COMMERCE CITY, Colorado (CMC):

Jamaican forward Omar Cummings was the provider of the lone goal in the Colorado Rapids' 1-0 win over Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer playoff action here on Thursday night.

Pablo Mastroeni converted Cummings' cross in the 24th minute and his single goal was the difference between the two sides in the first leg of the MLS Eastern Conference semi-finals.

Cummings had earlier muffed a one-two with Conor Casey on a two-on-one break in the 10th minute and scuffed a second chance in the 21st minute, as his finish went well wide of the left post.

On his own accord, Cummings had a miserable night as he was off mark, but could console himself when the deadlock was broken as Mastroeni tucked his pass in at the far post.

He missed on a header in the 31st minute and mis-fired on a header early in the second half.

The two teams split in the regular-season series with each team winning at home.

Cummings and the Rapids head to Columbus today for the return leg.
