Circuit racing veterans David Summerbell and Peter Rae are expected to join the ranks of track stars Kaliese Spencer, Lerone Clarke and triple jumper Trecia Smith by adding to Jamaica's medal haul when they enter the final leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) in Guyana today.

Dubbed the premier regional motorsport event, the championship will climax at the South Dakota racetrack in Guyana.

"David Summerbell went to test his car on the track today [Friday] and he was not doing too badly, while the other guys were busy tuning up their cars," said Hilary Jardine, president of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC), speaking from Guyana.

According to Jardine, Jamaica face an uphill task of winning the national title, but he was confident Summerbell and Rae can walk away with the Four-Wheel Drive and Two-Wheel Drive titles, respectively. Both are currently leading on points in their respective classes.

The qualifying session took place yesterday (Saturday). Among those who are scheduled to represent Jamaica are Summerbell, Rae, young Andre Anderson and motorcyclist Harlquin Rodney. Though his Mitsubishi Evolution V was shipped safely to Guyana, Doug Gore did not make the trip.

"The car will be sold in Guyana, at least two persons have expressed an interest in buying it. Boy, it was really running good. But, honestly, I believe David and Peter will win the drivers' championship," said Gore.
