Below are edited excerpts from comments posted online at www.jamaica-gleaner.com by readers to yesterday's lead story,'Hold it! Nelson demands talks over UK plan to send prisoners home'.

Cameron must consult

I think David Cameron is wrong for not consulting anyone about his proposals. However, Jamaica needs to change its policy in regards to their nationals not being able to serve sentences in Jamaica when they have committed a crime in a foreign country.

UK government broke

The UK Government is broke, and they are trying everything to raise money and reduce expenses. It is sad to know that this government policy is so twisted. This was not in their election mandate.

The world will soon realise what England is all about. History never lies.

Criminals shoulddo their time

Wow, Jamaica tops the criminal list! Now, there's a surprise. It's clear that the UK government is trying to save money with this initiative. But I believe that there must be consequences if you indulge in crime and you get caught; you shut your mouth and do your time. And on the day your sentence ends, they drive you to the airport.

Refused by'Bucky master'

What would we do if we had the same problem? Wouldn't we want to get rid of those undesirables?

This is why we must put more effort in educating our people so they won't continue to follow the 'Bucky Master' who is still using them as tax slaves, but when something goes wrong he wants to ship them back to their country!

Stand firm, GOJ

There is nothing to discuss. Such a move would be illegal, based on Jamaican law. The Government of Jamaica should stand firm and neither bow to political pressure nor accept bribes to sell out the constitutional rights of Jamaican citizens, and the sovereignty of the nation. 'No' to neocolonialism, regionalism and 'selloutism'. 'Yes' to patriotism and nationalism. Long live Jamaica!

J'cans to foot bill

Can you imagine the social and economic implications this will have for Jamaica? When we add 942 persons to the already overcrowed prison system, the Jamaican tax payers will now be required to foot the bill for crimes committed on foreign soil.
