Top Jamaican golfer Johnny Bloomfield is making a mark on North America's Canadian tour.

Bloomfield shot a 12 under par score to finish eighth in the Canadian Professional Golf Tour's season-ending Desert Dunes Classic, held last week in Desert Sprints, California.

The Jamaican, who was under par for all four days of the event, shot a final round 68 in very windy conditions to register the second best score of the day. Also tied at 12 under was the 2010 record setting order of merit winner, American Aaron Goldberg.

Blomfield's performance guarantees him full status for the 2011 season on the Canadian tour, the best tour in North America behind the Nationwide and Professional Golf Association (PGA) tours. The entire 2010 season was broadcast to millions of viewers via the Golf Channel and this will be repeated in 2011.

Substantial airtime

At the Canadian Tour Riviera Nayarit Classic, held in Mexico earlier in the season, Bloomfield's sixth- place finish merited him substantial airtime on the Golf Channel and he received the same while competing in this year's PGA Puerto Rico Open.

Bloomfield, the three-time consecutive winner of the island's premier professional golfing event of the year, the Jamaica Open, will be returning home shortly to defend his title in the December 2-4 tournament.
