BULGARIA - Former labour minister indicted

Prosecutors in Bulgaria have indicted a former labour minister for alleged embezzlement and abuse of power during her tenure in the previous government. According to Friday's indictment, lawmaker Emilia Maslarova approved a project to renovate a social services centre that was overpriced by €5.5 million (US$7.7 million), which was allegedly embezzled using fake invoices. Five others have also been indicted. Maslarova, who served as labour minister from 2005-2009, was formally charged with embezzlement.
