Good wins for top teams

Four junior teams and three seniors remain unbeaten after yesterday's matches in the ISSA/ Digicel Urban netball competition at the Leila Robinson Court.

Keeping 100 per cent winning records yesterday in the junior section were Meadowbrook, St Hugh's, St Catherine High and defending champions Queen's High. Those unbeaten in the senior section are Queen's High, Bridgeport and defending champions St Hugh's.

Yesterday's feature game in the senior section came in Group I as both Queen's High and Haile Selassie came into the game with two consecutive wins, and an exciting battle was expected. This was not to be, however, as the Marvette Anderson-coached Queen's High team, despite a close 5-3 first quarter lead, were too hot for their opponents as they raced away to an impressive 34-5 win. The losers failed to score a single goal in the final quarter. Goal-shooter Samantha Francis with 25 goals from 38 attempts, and goal attack Chantelle Shirley with nine from 28 led the way for Queen's.

Close defeat

Other teams scoring wins in Group I were St Andrew High and St Andrew Technical. St Andrew High made it two wins in row, following a close defeat to Queens in their first game, as they crushed former champions Vauxhall 47-6 while St Andrew Technical stopped Camperdown 30-17.

Defending champions St Hugh's were joined at the top of Group II by Bridgeport High on six points as both scored their third wins in a row. The defending champions scored over 30 points for the third time in row as they defeated Tarrant 35-8. Bridgeport got by many-time champions Alpha Academy 26-18.

Defending junior champions Queen High were in ruthless form yesterday as they rushed to their third consecutive win in Group I to be on six points after demolishing St Jago High 49-4 for the biggest win of the day. Joining the defending champions on top of the group with six points were Meadowbrook, who easily put away Camperdown High 17-9.
