Stars of the West, Orange Hill clash in Westmoreland 20/20

Beaten Social Development Commission (SDC) 20/20 cricket competition finalists Orange Hill and Stars of the West won their matches on Sunday in the Westmoreland Credit Union 20/20 at the Little London High School to book their places in the final to be held next Sunday.

In the first match at 10 a.m. between Delveland and Orange Hill, Orange Hill won by 92 runs after posting 235 for five in 20 overs. Crafton Clarke was in punishing form when he top scored with 110 runs while Chanda Francis supported with 75 runs.

Delveland could only manage 143 for eight in their 20 overs. Samuel Reid 40 and Carlton Williams 39 made most runs. The top bowler was Ewan Andrews with three for four for 18.

The second match got under way at 2 p.m. with Stars of the West battling Police. Stars of the West won the toss and invited Police to bat. They made 191 for nine.

National Under-19 representative Jermaine Blackwood made a masterful 118 while Rickel Walker 19 was the only other batsman to get into double figures. National Under-19 captain Paul Palmer took three for six in two overs.

Delivery

Stars of the West needed every delivery of their 20 overs to take the match by four wickets. They won on the last delivery with Paul Palmer top scoring on 71. Former national representative André Andrews chipped in with 36. Dujon Mitchell took three for 50.

The eight-team inaugural Westmoreland Credit Union 20/20 cricket competition culminates next week Sunday with Orange Hill facing Stars of the West at Little London High School at noon.

The winners will take home $40,000 and the runners-up $10,000.
