Barbican hunt Masters League three-peat

Defending Kingston and St Andrew Masters Football League Association (KSAMLA) champions, Barbican, booked their place in the 2010 JNBS masters league championship final with a narrow 1-0 win over Park Rovers on Sunday at Constant Spring oval. It will be Barbican's third straight appearance in the league final as they seek to become only the second team to win three consecutive KSAMLA league titles. Thunderbolts achieved the rare feat in 1995-1997.

One of the season's most enterprising player, Denton Shedden, grabbed the only goal of a very entertaining game from a wonderful solo effort in the 24th minute.

Park Rovers' coach, Alva Woods, stated: "You simply cannot dominate a team as we did and not score, and that has been a problem for us all season. Nevertheless, it has been a very competitive masters league season."

Constant Spring joined Barbican in the JNBS championship final with an emphatic 3-1 win over Christian Ambassadors. Moses Brown gave the winners a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute, but Phillip Riley netted his league leading 15th goal of the season in the 61st minute to put the Ambassadors level at 1-1.

Brown grabbed his second goal of the game to put Constant Spring ahead 2-1 in the 75th minute, and a mesmerising solo run and goal by Fabian Watkins in the 80th minute sealed a well-deserved 3-1 win for Constant Spring.

This is Spring's second trip to the masters league championship final in their third year of KSAMLA competition. In their league debut year, 2008, Constant Spring lost to Barbican in the final 3-1 on penalties after being level 1-1 after extra time. In the 2009 semi-finals, Constant Spring were knocked out again by Barbican 1-0, and in this season's mid-season final, Constant Spring lost to their old nemesis, Barbican, 4-3 on penalties.

The 2010 JNBS masters league championship final will be held on Sunday, November 21 at Buttercup Park at 3 p.m.
