In your neighbourhood: Eagles, Eastern win in Pattex Cup skittles

Former champions Eagles came from behind three times to beat Rowe's Strikers 8-3 in the opening round of the Pattex Cup skittles competition at Bejon's Sports Bar, Hughenden Plaza, last Sunday.

After coming from behind in the first three games to tie the scores at 3-3, Eagles moved into overdrive thereafter to shut out Rowe's in the next five games. Their winning players were Fred Marsh, Robert 'Whirlman' McKen, Emmanuel Munda, Dane Jones, Ralston 'Fla-Fla' Robinson, Orville Mighty, who teamed up with McKen to win the doubles match, Cheryl Anderson, who won the ladies match, and Ricardo Peart, who teamed up with Godfrey Willis to win the pool players match.

In the first match at the same venue, Mystix crushed Waltham Strikers 9-2.

In other opening-round matches, defending champions Eastern All-Stars defeated Starliner 7-4 in a home match at Eastern, 107 Windward Road in east Kingston, while Dragon from Giltress Street in Rollington Town clipped Portmore's The Dip 6-5 at the same venue.

In the third set of matches at Mister C Skittles Club in Spanish Town, home team Mister C drubbed newcomers Hangover from Portmore 9-2, while Olympic Strikers gained a walkover from Willies Strikers, who turned up short of players.

Matches in the second round are as follows: Olympic Strikers vs Mercury at Hangover Skittles Club, 3C Mega Way (near MegaMart) and Hangover vs Willies Strikers in the second match at the same venue. Dragon vs Eastern in the feature match at Starliner Skittles Club, 113 Waltham Park Road, and Starliner vs The Dip in the second match at the same venue. Eagles vs Waltham Strikers at Rowe's Strikers Skittles Club, Chelsea Avenue, New Kingston, and Rowe's vs Mystix in the second match.


Horace Miller scores 109 as LIME win KO title

Led by an unbeaten century of 109 from national senior player Horace Miller, LIME won their first trophy of the Business House cricket season last Sunday, defeating National Housing Trust by 140 runs in the Noranda Bauxite Partners 35-over final at Chalmers Avenue.

Batting first, LIME raced to 235 for four off their allotted 35 overs - Miller slamming 16 fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 109, while former national youth players André McCarthy and Yannick Elliott chipped in with 48 and 26 not out, respectively. Lawayne Smalling claimed 2-34.

National Housing Trust were skittled out for 95 in 23.3 overs - former national under-19 player Shacoya Thomas getting 32 and national senior player Bevan Brown 20. Fitzroy Peterkin took four wickets for four runs, while Ryan Francis and Carlos Green bagged two wickets apiece.

LIME will meet Jamalco in the Digicel 20/20 final, which has been postponed from this Sunday to December 5. The final will be played at Chalmers Avenue, off Molynes Road.


Cal's pools tour continues Nov 27

The fourth leg of the Cal's Spring Water/Real Vibes Party Wine pool tour will take place on the weekend of November 27 and 28 at Chelsea Hotel and Sports Bar, 5 Chelsea Avenue, starting at noon.

The tour has been generating a lot of interest in pool circles since MoBay's Noel 'Schoolboy' Blagrove won the first leg at the Hot Shots Sports Bar, 103 Constant Spring Road, on August 28 and 29.

The second leg at Upper Level in Mandeville was won by Chelsea's Calhoun Melville, with Jody Mullings from May Pen taking the third leg in MoBay, each receiving $80,000 and trophies. The runners-up will receive $35,000, third $15,000 and fourth $7,500, while players finishing from fifth to eighth place will each receive $2,500.

Entry and re-entry fee are $1,000 each. Entries close tonight at Hot Shots Pool Bar. Tournament director Leslie 'Toothpick' Puranda of the Jamaica Billiards Association said already more than 40 entries have been received, and this figure should grow to at least 60 by next weekend with the addition of new members.

New members will get a chance to pay $3,000 for membership fees to the Jamaica Billiards Association, and with that, entry to this tournament.


Scotiabank blank Special Olympics 3-0

The newly crowned inter-bank football champions Scotiabank Group defeated the Jamaica Special Olympics football team 3-0 in the Digicel-sponsored annual two-day Special Olympics Invitational football tournament at UWI Bowl, Mona, on November 12 and 13.

In this the closing match last Saturday, Scotiabank outplayed the Special Olympics team, thanks to goals from Richard West in the 35th minute, Ajuran Brown (42nd minute) and Nicholas Reynolds (53rd minute).

In other events over the two days of competition, the Cayman Islands over-15-boys clipped St Catherine 3-2 to take the gold medal in Division I, while Kingston Under-15 beat Westmoreland 2-1 in Division II to win the gold as well.

Meanwhile, The Bahamas topped the girls open, defeating St Andrew 2-1 to capture the gold medal.


Lannaman's, Quest, OLA, Hydel lead JISA Netball

Lannamans, Quest, Our Lady of the Angel (OLA) and Hydel are the respective leaders of the Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA) Netball League after four rounds.

Lannaman's head Zone One over Holy Childhood, Mona and Wolmer's, after recording three victories and a tie. Lannaman's opened the season with a 15-2 win over Mona, then shut out Splendor 23-0 before tagging Trafalgar 9. The tie came against Wolmer's 8-8. Holy Childhood are second, having gained two wins from three matches played. These came against Trafalgar Prep 13-5, and Bright Beginnings 18-5. Quite interestingly, Mona and Trafalgar Prep produced another tie in this zone when they ended 6-6.

Zone Two is the domain of Quest who have landed four straight wins in convincing fashion. So far, they have outscored Sacred Heart 14-3, Alvernia 16-5, Suthermere 18-4 and Emmanuel Christian 18-3.

Our Lady of the Angels Prep control Zone Three, despite the scorelines being consistently close. They have put together four wins: 12-2 over St Theresa, 14-2 over St Peter & Paul, 10-9 over St Andrew and 11-8 over Portmore Missionary.

High-scoring Hydel rule the roost in Zone Four with a slate of four wins. They have posted the season's highest margin of victory, shutting out Meadowbrook 24-0. Other wins have come against Ardenne 21-3, Vaz 9-8 and Dunrobin 14-12.


Claro Clarendon FA KO

The rebranded Clarendon FA KO, which is now sponsored by telecommunications company Claro, will continue today at the Mineral Heights Sports Centre with a double-header.

Original Hazard will face York Town at 1 p.m. while Cross oppose Sporting Athletic at 3 p.m.

The competition kicked off last weekend at the Four Paths Community Centre with Coffals beating Cherry Tree 2-1. Cherry Tree returned the favour three days later with a similar scoreline. However, Coffals triumphed 3-0 on penalties to advance. They will face Cockpit on Tuesday.

In other matches played this week, Freetown and Woodhall ended 1-1 at Bodles and Cleveland Grant scored to give Rock River a 1-0 win over Milk River at Turner's Oval.

In matches slated for the coming week, Comfort will host Gimmi-me-bit and Longwood entertain Spartan on Monday. On Thursday it's Ebony Stars vs Gayle at Ebony Grove and Woodhall vs Free Town at Turner's Oval.


Trafalgar in JISA second round

Trafalgar Christian Prep lead all qualifiers to the 2010 Bigga-sponsored Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA) football league after recording six straight victories.

They began the competition with a 3-0 win over Holy Childhood then hammered Hopefield 13-0. They then beat Praise Tabernacle 5-0, before collecting points and a 3-0 cushion after Dunrobin failed to show. They ended the first round with consecutive 2-0 victories over Liberty and Richmond Park.

Hillel from Zone Two have also made it to the second round despite losing 2-1 to Wolmer's. They subsequently earned a fourth preliminary round win after thrashing St Theresa 3-0. Earlier wins had come against Meadowbrook (3-0), Alvernia (3-1) and Morris Knibb (3-0). Also making the early cut are Quest (Zone 1), Lannaman's (Zone 4) and Hydel (Zone 5).

Change in Super League start

The South Central Confed has confirmed that the Super League has been pushed back from its original start date of November 27 to Saturday, December 18.

The secretariat has blamed the late registration of the majority of eligible clubs and the fact that a significant number of the registrations remain incomplete. New deadlines have been introduced as follows: November 22-26 - final venue inspections; November 29-30 - nomination of replacement clubs, if necessary; December 1-3 - circulation of fixtures/regulations; and December 11 - meetings with club, south central executive.


Uphill task for Waterford

Division One Club Waterford will have an uphill task against former Premier League outfit Rivoli United in the LIME/St Catherine Co-operative Credit Union KO tournament today, at the Waterford field. Kick-off time is 3 p.m. In other games today, Bodles entertain Threadways at Hi-Pro field, and Cumberland host Tru-Juice at Cumberland High School field.

In games played last Thursday at the, Spanish Town Prison Oval, Frazer's Whip defeated Dunbeholden 2-0 in extra time after both teams were locked 0-0 after regulation time, while in the feature match, Super League team Meadows survived a scare before eliminating Travellers 6-4.


Ken's spoil Colours day

Ken's Wildflower ruined Colours International's bid to cop two cups in two days, when they defeated their neighbours by four wickets in the final of the inaugural Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum Portmore 20/20 Cricket League last Sunday. Colours won the league title the day before.

It was a surprisingly low-scoring game despite the presence of capable and hard-hitting batsmen on both teams. Colours batted first and were all out for 86 in 13.2 overs. Delroy Morgan top-scored for Colours with 30. Ken's Myron Chin snared three for three off two overs while Brenton Beckford took two for 12. Ken's Wildflower replied with 88-6 off 18.4 overs. Junior Stewart hit 31 and Robert Cato supported with a timely 20. Colours top bowler was Delroy Morgan with two for six, while Ralston Nelson bagged two for seven.


Mega domino clash in Portmore

Giants Hangover United and Portmore Lane Tigers will battle for the championship trophy and a cash award in the final of the MP Colin Fagan-sponsored South East St Catherine Portmore Domino League at Garveymeade Sports Club tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.

In last Sunday's semi-final games, top-ranked Hangover repelled a serious challenge from Passagefort United and prevailed 250-238, while in another close encounter, Portmore Lane Tigers outscored Cumberland 250-240. By virtue of their score, Cumberland automatically secure third place.


Three-star Colours

Colours International won the Tony Becca Cup for the third straight year after they defeated newcomers Bridgeview by 88 runs in the final of the Wray and Nephew Portmore Cricket League last Sunday.

Ramon Senior, a national junior player, hit a top score of 90 runs in a match-winning innings that propelled defending champs Colours International to a competitive total of 172-9 off 35 overs. Robert Brown (3-22) and Coi Thompson (2-25) shared five wickets for Bridgeview. In reply, Bridgeview made a promising start and at one point were 61-1. However, a sudden collapse of the innings saw them crashing to 84-9, batting one man short.
