... Lara, Yorke included
Former West Indies captain, Trinidad and Tobago's Brian Lara, and his countryman, Dwight Yorke, a past Manchester United star footballer, will be among the 90 players competing in the Jamaica Open Golf tournament set for December 1-4 at the Half Moon Course in Montego Bay, St James.
Chairman of LIME, Chris Dehring, speaking at the launch of the 47th staging of the Open yesterday at the company's head office on Carlton Cresent, said the two were now better than average golfers and should do well.
"They are coming here from a tournament in South Africa and are both trying to hone their skills in golf, having ended very, very successful professional careers in their chosen field.
"They are now moving on to golf and they are both extremely talented golfers. Brian is a scratch golfer who amazingly plays both left and right-handed, which just goes to show the kind of athlete that he is. He is looking forward to coming here and hopefully win the thing," Dehring said.
Lara, 41, was recently named a batting consultant for the Zimbabwe national team.
The West Indies batting legend will work with the team during the 2011 World Cup, and also prepare them for their return to Tests after five years.
The world Test record holder is one of several former and current international players who com-peted in Zimbabwe's national domestic Twenty20 tournament.
