AISK girls beat Hillel 4-1 in 'Soccafeva' warm-up
LED by Raven Pitcher's double strike, the American International School of Kingston (AISK) hosted their first senior girls' football game against Hillel Academy last Tuesday, and nailed the visitors 4-1 in a game that started amid sheets of rain which soaked the field.
However, the wet weather did not deter fans from cheering and, given that this was the AISK team's first game, they had no idea what to expect from their opponents.
AISK trailed 1-0 at half-time, the only goal allowed by AISK's defence, which was marshalled by Kimberely Gonzalez and Zuri Marley.
AISK equalised at the beginning of the second half with a goal from midfielder Gabriella Belanvis. Pitcher then gave them the lead with a shot from distance, before scoring again from the penalty spot, following a handball inside the box, to increase the lead to 3-1.
Emma Bunting then scored the final goal of the match.
Given the AISK's mission - 'to build a community of enthusiastic and reflective lifelong learners who are passionate, caring and who will become responsible world citizens', AISK seeks to foster ties with other international schools in the Caribbean through sport.
This it hopes to achieve by hosting the first soccer tournament of its kind, Soccafeva, on December 10-11. AISK and Hillel's teams, both boys and girls, will meet again at the six-a-side tournament. Students, parents, teachers, and friends are encouraged to come out to experience the excitement of the event.
