Skerrit pleased with new health plan

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has welcomed the launch of a strategic plan for health, saying it was part of his administration's plan to restructure the sector to benefit every Dominican citizen. Themed 'Investing in Health, Building a Safer Future', the plan, launched Wednesday, focuses on the health status of the population, social determinants on the health of the population and the management of health services.
Other areas of focus will be the organisation and management of the health system and sustainability of the health-services system. "I welcome the launch of this new strategic plan for health which offers a practical approach for strengthening the health system and will ensure a greater mechanism for improved satisfaction of the services provided," Skerrit told the ceremony to launch the document. "The strategic plan for health 2010-2019 establishes a platform for government action on the health sector will guarantee benefits to all citizens and will pay special attention to tackling inequalities in health." He said the new health initiative was consistent with his government's efforts to ensure greater equality for nationals in all aspects of their lives.
