ONLINE FEEDBACK

Below are edited excerpts from comments posted online at www.jamaica-gleaner.com by readers to yesterday's lead story 'Talk up - Vaz claims PNP side-stepping Trafigura affair'.

Wrong place

So now we trade scandals. A post-Cabinet press briefing should not be used for political point-scoring. It should focus on the issues for the country as discussed by Cabinet. The Jamaica Labour Party's office is the place for political issues.

If this is now a legal issue for the People's National Party, why is it being tried by the JLP? It should be dealt with in open court. Scandals are not badges and both parties should seek to lose the badges.

What's the fuss?

Why is there an issue with Trafigura & the People's National Party re the money, and why were the PNP so stupid to send it back, if they did? Is it illegal or immoral for a political party to receive contributions in Jamaica?

We are at a crossroads and these politicians must stop playing politics with Jamaica's business. Since the JLP is upset, and since they currently form the Government, they should bring legislation to Parliament to make political party contributions illegal, or stop the noise. It was just this week that the JLP declared how much donations it received in 2007.

The Government needs to be consistent on the contribution issue on a whole. If they are against contributions, pass the necessary laws to make it illegal. In other words, put up or shut up!

Pot vs kettle

What's happening here? Pot calling kettle black. This shows that the PNP really needs to do some house cleaning before they can ever consider governing this country again! If they still have the money after telling us it was returned, Pickersgill, Phillips and company 'tek we fi fool'.

None to lead?

So it appears none of the political parties has the moral standing to lead the people of Jamaica. Oh, I so wish that a third party, and even a fourth, would render both parties useless and place them in the waiting galleries.

Oh, what a day would that be!

Deal with it!

If the PNP had adequately disposed of the Trafigura debacle in 2006 the JLP could not have been conducting this seance to resurrect it, to be drawn as a parallel to the Manatt-Dudus saga. Portia Simpson Miller should just do the right thing and dispose of this cloud once and for all ... don't bother to follow the footstep of the chief servant and take us around the mulberry bush one more time.
