Queen's hunt double

Published:Wednesday | December 1, 2010 | 12:00 AM

DEFENDING junior champions Queen's School and senior champions St Hugh's High will be hoping for a repeat when the curtain falls on the Urban ISSA/Digicel schoolgirls netball competition at the Leila Robinson Courts today at 1:30 p.m. Queen's will, in fact, be seeking two titles. They face first time finalists Meadowbrook in the junior final before opposing St. Hugh's in the senior final.

The Marvette Anderson-coached Queen's will be hoping for a clean sweep and the all-island defending champion should have little difficulty in stopping Meadowbrook.

Unbeaten for the past two years, the Queen's team has been brilliant all season as they are yet to be tested and based on their impressive semi-final showing a week ago where they easily defeated St Hugh's 28-18 they should make it two in a row. They are led by the very accurate goal shooter Khadijah Porter and goal attack Shade French and good support is expected from centre, Kalesha Freckleton.

Exceeding expectations

After exceeding expectations so far this season, Meadowbrook will be hoping to create one of the biggest upsets of the season when they face the defending champions. However, they will have to show vast improvement if they are to deny Queen's another title as they only got the better of St Catherine High by two goals, 20-18 in a game where both teams were guilty of a lot of errors.

Meadowbrook will be hoping that their centre court players can get more balls to the shooters and at the same time hope that their defenders will be able to stop the very agile and aggressive Queen's players who have looked a class above all teams this season.

Unlike the junior final which is expected to be a one-sided affair, the seniors encounter will be close. Both teams are unbeaten and based on their records so far this season, the winners should be the teams which make the least mistakes. There were contrasting results for both teams in the semi-finals. The defending champions had an easy 26-17 win over St Andrew High while Queen's got the better of Bridgeport 26-22.
