Schoolgirls battle at Stadium
The curtain will fall on the ISSA/Digicel netball competition today at the Leila Robinson Courts, National Stadium.
In the junior final at 2:30 p.m. urban junior champions Queen's School will meet rural junior winners Holmwood Technical, before St Hugh's High and Denbigh High meet in the senior final.
In the first game it will be a repeat of last year's final. The Carlene Graham-Powell-coached Holmwood were whipped last year by Queen's and will be coming all out to avenge that defeat. Holmwood, who dominated the fourth quarter to defeat Denbigh High easily in the rural final, are not expected to to do likewise today as the Marvette Anderson-coached Queen's have been playing some of the best netball among all teams this season, including seniors, and they should continue their dominance.
Coach Anderson is very confident of victory today.
"I know the Holmwood team will be coming out very strong and will want to make up for their defeat last year; but my girls are ready and I think we are playing much better this year, especially in defence," said Anderson.
New champions will be crowned among the seniors as defending all-island champions Holmwood failed to advance, as they were beaten by Denbigh in the rural final last Friday. The Christine Bartley-coached Denbigh have been unbeaten all season.
"Our girls are in high spirits and they are ready to go. Once they play a disciplined game like they did in the rural final, I do not see them losing," Bartley said.
