Village United scored their first league victory over Boys' Town in 10 attempts as they got by the Trench Town-based outfit 1-0 in their second-round Digicel Premier League encounter yesterday at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Dino Williams netted the game's all-important goal in the 25th minute to give 10th-place Village their second away victory of the 2010-11season.

This was the second consecutive home game that Boys' Town were playing at Arnett Gardens' home ground in an effort to garner extra revenue. The venture has, however, yielded their only 'home' defeats of the season to date.

Andrew Price, coach of Boys' Town, believes they have no choice but to contest their home games away from Collie Smith Drive.

"We have to get ourselves out of the financial debt we are in so we have to maximise opportunities to collect revenue, and right now we are not collecting any revenue at Collie Smith Drive," Price explained.

Even start

The game got off to an even start with Boys' Town coming close to opening the scoring in the 18th minute when their captain, Michael Campbell, did some good work on the edge of Village's 18-yard box before getting off a shot, which went just wide of the left upright.

Despite playing away from home and being six places and 12 points behind their opponents coming into the encounter, Village United acquitted themselves well and gave as much as they got.

They were rewarded for their industry in the 25th minute when Dino Williams found the back of the net.

Williams pounced on a poor back-pass into defence from Boys' Town's Andre Wheeler. his initial shot was, however, kick-saved by Boys' Town's custodian, Philmore Crumbie. Williams was, however, first to react to the rebound, which he slammed home from close range.

Lack of spunk

The Red Brigade lacked their usual second spunk as they failed to muster much in attack. Their miserable evening was made even more so in the 84th minute when Wayne Ellis committed his second bookable offence and was ejected.

"We had to take some disciplinary action with some players who did not come down to the country last week, so we played a lot of players who are on the fringe," Price informed. "The players on the fringe didn't really show up today, they didn't really look the part," he added.

Nedeir Dos Santos, who has been in charge of the Trelawny-based club for a mere two games, was pleased with his team's performance.

"It was a very tough game but we had the most clear chances in the match," Dos Santos pointed out. "Our keeper was not bothered throughout the 90 minutes, so I think it was a fair result."

There were also important wins for Tivoli Gardens, Portmore United and Sporting Central. The results of the late matchups, Arnett Gardens vs Waterhouse and Harbour View vs Reno, were not available at press time.
