St Thomas, Cornwall claim titles
St Thomas Technical were crowned the new rural Busta/ISSA Under-16 champions after ousting defending champions Munro 1-0, while Cornwall prevailed over Glenmuir 4-3 on penalties to take the Under-14 crown.
Both games were played at Brooks Park in Mandeville on Tuesday.
St Thomas had earlier beaten McGrath High to win the Abner Wright Cup, the sectional trophy awarded to teams from one half of the rural belt.
Following a highly competitive match, Marvin Powell secured the all-important goal in the 72nd minute, when he was allowed to control a Shamarie Brown cross on his chest and set up a volley that beat Munro's national custodian, Akeem Forbes.
St Thomas Technical can now hope for more glory as they are scheduled to face corporate area champions Excelsior.
Cornwall earned the Under-14 crown the hard way, after coming from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw with Glenmuir during regulation and extra time. They then showed better composure to win the penalty shoot-out 4-3.
Ricardo Dennis gave Glenmuir the lead after eight minutes but captain Zachary Headley replied a minute later. In the 61st minute, Mallique Palmer scored to restore Glenmuir's lead. However, Cornwall College stole their title hopes when Tajay Kelly produced the best goal of the game, an 18-yard shot that found the back of the net.
Kelly would then score the deciding penalty to secure the title.
