With the 2010-11 Captain's Bakery Western Super League now on in earnest, former national champions Seba United and Wadadah, who are both unbeaten, are the joint front-runners in the 12-team competition, which will land the eventual winner in the 2011-12 DPL qualification series.

Seba United, who, like Wadadah, are on 10 points after three wins and one draw in their four outings, were in dazzling mood in their last game on Sunday, spanking Exidos FC 7-0 behind goals from Kemar James (2), Nicholas Barnes (2), Omar Reid, Iton Scott and Torey Samuels.

"The team is playing quite well and it is nice to see so many different players scoring in one game," said Danilo Barriga, Seba United's Peruvian coach. "Our objective is to stay consistent throughout this tournament, and we should be okay."

Dismal season

The Wadadah team, which had a dismal 2009-10 season, hovering over the relegation zone for long periods, have hit a comfort zone, according to coach Daniel Rickettes, who also added that he was most impressed with their current position.

"We have started much better than we did last year, and we are thankful for that," said Rickettes, whose team had a 4-1 win over Montpelier FC last weekend. "We have been putting in the work on the training field, so we are not surprised by the results we are getting."

Frome FC, one of the competition's perennial campaigners, hold third position in the standings on nine points, which were accumulated from three wins and one defeat in their four games so far. Catherine Hall FC and Montpelier are next in the standings on seven points each.

The remainder of the standings reads: Harmony and Russia both on five points; Granville FC - four points; Tomorrow's People - three points, and Bamboo FC and Exodus FC, both failing to register a point so far.

In the area of goalscoring, a total of 57 goals have been scored. Seba United are the most prolific team with 13 goals, followed by Wadadah, nine, and Montpelier and Granville, who have seven goals each. Exidos have so far given up 13 goals and are the worst defensive team in the league so far.

In addition to qualifying for the 2011-12 DPL qualifying series, the eventual winner of the competition will take home the Captain's Bakery & Grill trophy and a cash purse of $150,000.
