UWI clip BOJ 3-2 in Div 2 club TT
University of the West Indies (UWI) edged visitors Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) in a Division Two match played Wednesday night, as the JTTA National Table Tennis Club League continued.
The match was played in the Students' Union Hall and despite the loss, BOJ are still on top in the points standings. They lead with 12 points ahead of former champions Pembroke Hall, on eight points, UWI six points, Highgate United five points, and Yes Fitness Centre two points. The top four finishers will progress to semi-finals.
Individual results
In individual results in Wednesday night's encounter, Robert Thaxter won two matches for UWI, stopping Selvin Smith 8-11, 11-8, 11-5 12-10 (3-1) and overpowering Glenroy Williams 11-3, 11-4, 11-3 (3-0). Nicholas Mahfood and Chevarlo Foster outlasted Smith and Williams 11-1, 13-15, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7 (3-2) in doubles, for UWI's third win.
Both consolation matches for BOJ were won by Alphanso Murray, who turned back Mahfood 12-10, 10-12, 11-5, 11-4 (3-1) and pipped Foster 8-11, 11-9, 16-14, 7-11, 11-8 (3-2).
The UWI team is coached by Sandra Riettie while Selvin Smith is player/coach for BOJ.
