Grenada churches lament Christmas Eve reggae show

Church leaders in the Caribbean nation of Grenada are complaining about a Christmas Eve concert by reggae acts with names like Assassin and Mr Killa. They say it's an affront to the island's Christian heritage.

The Grenada Conference of Churches condemns a government decision to allow an event promoter to host the December 24 show featuring various stars of Jamaican dancehall - a rap-reggae music hybrid that often has raunchy, violent themes.

The group's Thursday statement calls it regrettable the government is allowing acts that promote, in its words, "a culture contrary to our Christian values" on a night holy to Christians.
