Reggae Girl Omolyn Davis recently received one of the highest honours in American intercollegiate soccer.
The 23-year-old George Mason student was named by the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NCSSA) as an all-American. Davis, a senior who graduates in May, was selected a fourth-team all-American for the instrumental role she played in helping George Mason gain promotion to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) for the 2010 season.
The winner of the 2009 RJR Sports Foundation category award for female football said her latest recognition made her feel "both honoured and humbled".
An all-America team is an honorary sports team made up of outstanding amateur players who are considered the best players in the specific season for each team position. Athletes who receive this honour are referred to as all-Americans.
Davis, a former student of Excelsior High School, played two seasons for George Mason after transferring from National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics institution, Lindsay Wilson College. She was named first-team All-CAA both seasons, and last year she was selected National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Region.
Waterhouse player
The player, who represents Waterhouse in the Sherwin Williams Women's League locally, upped her game this season and became the first student of George Mason since Jaime Pagliarulo in 1998 to be honoured at the highest level.
She was first in the CAA in points per game, second in assists per game and third in goals per game. She finished the year with 29 points on 10 goals and nine assists.
Despite just two seasons in the green and gold, she finished her career among the top 15 in school history in points, goals and assists. At the time the selection was made, Davis was ranked 25th in the nation in points per game and assists per game and 56th in goals per game.
Davis is the 13th George Mason player to be named All-American. The previous 12 combined to receive the honour 22 times. She is one of three CAA players to receive All-America honours, as CAA Player of the Year Tiffany Yovino of Hofstra and James Madison's Teresa Rynier were both named third-team All-American.
