Pembroke Hall too strong for Yes Fitness Centre
Former champions Pembroke Hall blanked newcomers and hosts, Yes Fitness Centre, 3-0 in their Division Two match of the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) Club League on Sunday, at Manchester High School.
The win moved Pembroke Hall into joint first place with Bank of Jamaica (BoJ) on 12 points. They are followed by the University of the West Indies (UWI) on six, Highgate United (five) and Yes Fitness Centre (4). The top four will advance to the semi-finals.
Pembroke Hall's Jermaine James and Richardo Lee crushed Bert Welsh and Everette Kavanaugh, respectively, by similar 3-0 scores in singles matches. James and Kevin Nelson then outplayed brothers Everette and Peter Kavanaugh 3-1, to complete the 3-0 triumph for Pembroke Hall.
In Division Three action, defending champions Pembroke Hall edged Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club 3-2 and 5-0, respectively, in two matches played on the day.
The victories propelled Pembroke Hall to the top of the standings on 15 points. They are seven ahead of Juici Patties (8), while Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club and UWI have six each, Digicel five and Highgate United two. The top four finishers will progress to the semis.
In the first game between Pembroke Hall and Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club, Jordan Hazle defeated Dwayne Gayle 3-0 and Chad Reid clipped Sanjay Sibblies 3-2 in singles matches.
Hazle and Glen-Ross McDonald then stopped Sibblies and Jason Welsh 3-1 in doubles for Pembroke Hall's three wins.
