Though they did not capture any major titles at last weekend's go-kart race meet in Orlando, Florida, Jamaica's young drivers displayed a high level of consistency.

According to reports, the youngest member of the team, Justin Sirgany, 9, gave a good performance in the Rotax Micro Max Class. He took the challenge to some of the more experienced karters on the circuit. The pint-sized Jamaican had two podium finishes. He was third on Saturday and second on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Red Bull-sponsored Collin Daley Jr also finished third and second, respectively, on both days.

Jamaica's Driver of the Year and Rotax Mini Max champion, Thomas Issa, was fourth on Saturday and third the following day. Another young and promising Jamaican, Jonathan Law, put up a good fight and was among the medal winners on Saturday.

Local Rotax Junior Class champion, Matthew Williams, had some problems with his kart and this prevented him from competing effectively.

Peter Rae, who is enjoying his last days of presidency for the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA), was overwhelmed with the performance of the karters and believes it was a good all year for go-karting in Jamaica.

Apart from their preparation for the upcoming Florida Winter Tour (FWT) series, which commence in February, the JKA is now looking forward to the US Grand National Finals next year.

In an interview with Automotives earlier this year, president of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) Errol Anderson had predicted Jamaican karters would be putting the island on the map, similar to Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell. It seems they are well on their way.
