The holidays are a time for togetherness, and nothing brings people together like laughter. Yesterday, director Pablo Hoilett brought a fresh new screwball comedy to the Jamaican stage.

I Take This Man features veterans Terry Salmon, Clive Duncan and Audrey Reid alongside David Crossgill, Keniesha Bowes, Jean-Paul Menou and Keiran King in a story of mistaken identity and misplaced affection.

Madcap combination

First made popular in the films of the 1940s, screwball comedies are a madcap combination of rapid-fire dialogue and physical entanglement. They usually revolve around a sympathetic character searching for love.

I Take This Man fits the mold perfectly.Terry Salmon plays Giddy, a woman who has never been on a second date, much less in love. The mayhem begins when she happens upon a handsome man (Jean-Paul Menou/Keiran King) lying in the middle of a New Kingston street. Thinking him the man of her dreams, she sets in motion a series of unfortunate but hilarious events.

The fun started on Sunday with two shows. The showings continue at The Theatre Place, at 8 Haining Road.

In the spirit of the season, part proceeds go to the Maxfield Park Children's Home.
