Online feedback

Below are excerpts from comments of our online readers to yesterday's lead story, 'Surprise, surprise: Good Samaritans deliver teen mother's unexpected twins'.

happy ending

I am happy for this family and the kind neighbours. That is the Jamaican spirit.

I am, however, appalled by the fact that no assistance was rendered from persons with transportation.

Second, neither the police, nor fire department nor an ambulance helped. Where is the country going? I know we may lack certain resources but, my God, this lady lives in Portmore. What if it were a rural community?

shameful

Disgraceful! I cannot believe something like this could happen in cosmopolitan Jamaica. A mother with two newborns, with umbilical cord still attached, has to ride in the back of a pickup truck to hospital? My God! The Government should be ashamed of itself.

unwise decision

Happy that mom and babies are OK! On the other hand, not having an ultrasound was not wise. It's not only to see whether you are carrying one or more babies but also to determine if you will deliver naturally or by C-section, as well as indicate other complications.

appalling circumstances

Congratulations to mother and babies! It is appalling that she had no medical care or transportation. Wasn't it recently that someone suggested that Jamaica should become a haven for retirees? If the country is unprepared to handle the delivery of babies, what care would they be prepared to mete out to the helpless aged?

mom unprepared

She knows that in order to have a healthy delivery, her doctor or community must be part of her pregnancy.

Come on, we are in the 20th century. She should have known within three to four months of her pregnancy that she was having twins.

bad decision

It is not only 'uneducated' girls that fall into this category. However, her uninformed decision to forgo the ultrasound - although late in the game - could have led to some serious complications for one or both of those children.

I have seen where a mother was not aware she was carrying twins. The second child was left in the womb and had serious mental retardation after eventually being delivered.
