Frazier's Whip, Rivoli in KO showdown
GIANT KILLERS Frazier's Whip will be looking to ride their tremendous form all the way to the title when they tackle former Premier League outfit, Rivoli United, in the highly anticipated final of the LIME St Catherine Football Association (SCFA) knockout competition, at the Spanish Town Prison Oval this afternoon, starting at 4 p.m.
Frazier's Whip, having defeated four-time Premier League champions Portmore United and former national knockout champions Naggo's Head, at the quarter and semi-final rounds, respectively, will be looking to get by the equally impressive Rivoli United, which dismissed Tru Juice 3-0 in the semi-finals.
The game is the feature of a double-header that will also showcase beaten semi-finalists Naggo's Head and Tru-Juice, in the third-place play-off at 2 p.m.
President of the SCFA, Peter Reid, noted Frazier's Whip's historical exploit of securing a place in the final and said he expects a thrilling finale.
He said: "This is the first time that a club from the second tier of the St Catherine football hierarchy has reached the finals of the knockout competition and since both clubs had an excellent season, it promises to be an exhilarating final match.
"We have also seen the emergence of several shining stars in both clubs throughout the season and we're looking forward to some great play from them in the final," Reid added.
Stephen Price, regional special projects manager for the sponsors, LIME, believes the advancement of Frazier's Whip is testament that they are meeting their goal of raising the standard of the game in the parish.
Reason for sponsorship
Price said: "One of the reasons LIME decided to sponsor this league was to help develop football in St Catherine and with the successes of the season so far, I'd say we're achieving this objective."
He also pointed out that there will be a star-packed entertainment package to spice up the finals event.
"We'll have live performances from dancehall artistes Chi Ching Ching, I-Shawna and Food Kartel. We'll also have the LIME BlackBerry Goal Kick competition, free body and face painting and all kinds of prizes and surprises for patrons. It's going to be a game-day spectacle," Price added.
