Oliver tires of 'largeness'
Although Oliver Yu Large Oh shared much of its title with the television series, it never made its way onto the silver screen. And Oliver Samuels says although he had his moments on the big musical stage, he never pursued it.
In fact, shortly after Oliver Yuh Large Oh was released, the 'largeness' got too much for him.
"For many years, everywhere I went they would play it. I could not take it any more," Samuels said. "It was like 'what can I do to get rid of this thing?'."
Additionally, Samuels makes it clear that he did the recordings "for the fun of it. I would not want to be travelling up and down and performing on the stage, although there is a lot of money in it. I am not that kind of character."
There is also the Fabulous Five factor, Samuels saying "I would forever perform with Fab 5, but I am not sure I would want to perform with any other band." He credits Fab 5 for their discipline and bemoans the late start and ad hoc approach on many shows.
"I have not performed it in the longest while," Samuels said.
He can still recall, though, the initial rush of hearing oneself on air. In the first few weeks after Oliver Yuh Large Oh hit the airwaves, people would call and tell him that they heard it, but "by the time I turned on the radio it was over". Then he finally caught it and was naturally excited.
Although rarely performed, Oliver Yuh Large Oh has lasted to become a defining - though humorous - statement by the actor.
