Cavalier, August Town win
Defending champions Cavalier and second place August Town recorded contrasting victories in Saturday's round of matches in the Kingston and Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/Claro Super League.
Cavalier recorded an exciting 2-1 victory over Bull Bay at Collie Smith Drive. Horace Sharpe (21st) and Jermaine Gray (31st) scored for the David Laylor-coached Cavalier, while Bevill Grossett scored for Bull Bay in the 56th.
August Town, who were demoted from top-flight football last season, thrashed Rae Town 5-0 at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Bowl. August Town were led to their victory courtesy of a double from Ricardo Munroe in the 24th and 44th minutes. Shanon Pinnock (57th), Gee Daley (79th) and Omari Edwards (81st) were the other scorers for August Town.
Cavalier, on 34 points, lead August Town (32) in the standings with eight matches remaining in the competition. Third-placed UWI (27) recorded a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Barbican (14) at the Barbican field. Ramoun Reid (32nd) and Owen Hill (41st) were on target for the Neville 'Bertis' Bell-coached UWI. Troy Clue had scored the opening goal of the match for Barbican in the 11th minute.
Santos (24) beat Duhaney Park (10) 2-1 at the Bell-Chung Oval. Fabian Nethersole (25th) and Terrence Allen (78th) scored for Santos, while Leonard Gooden (49th) netted for Duhaney Park.
In other games, Devon Williams scored in the 15th minute to hand Real Mona (11) a 1-0 victory over Constant Spring (12) at Buttercup Park, while Mountain View United (13) and Rockfort (22) played to a 1-1 draw at Excelsior High School. Troyland Williams gave Mountain View the lead in the 84th minute, but former national striker, Onandi Lowe, equalised for Rockfort in the 90th.
