Former Jamaica and West Indies captain Courtney Walsh has, according to sources close to the camp of presidential candidate Lyndel Wright, decided not to run for a post at the Jamaica Cricket Association's (JCA) annual general meeting and election of officers, which is scheduled to take place on February 9 at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

The former world bowling record holder, who lost to businessman Paul Campbell by three votes at the association's last AGM in 2008, was contemplating running for the post of vice-president on Wright's ticket. However, it is understood that due to overseas commitments he has decided not to.

With Walsh out of the race, the Wright team has decided to add former secretary Milton Henry to its list of candidates.

A former supporter of Campbell, Henry, who prior to Campbell's reign served as secretary to former president Jackie Hendriks, was re-elected at the last polls. However, he resigned in early 2010.

"We are happy to announce that Henry will be part of our team and will run for the post of vice-president," said Fritz Harris, who will be Wright's candidate for secretary.

"He has a wealth of cricket and professional experience and we are looking forward to him making meaningful contributions, as we seek to take the game forward," Harris added.

However, while the Wright team is happy to have Henry on board, Campbell's does not seem too perturbed, as according to them, they have started a journey of developing the sport locally, and are confident that they will be given a chance to continue.

"It's a democratic organisation and every-body has a right to put themselves up for a position. So we have no difficulty with his (Henry) decision to run," said St Catherine's Randy Nelson, who is Campbell's candidate for secretary.

"We have been putting things in place and have plans to put more things in place to grow and develop sport, and that is what we believe will carry us through in the election," he added.

Henry will face off with Kingston's Alva Anderson.

Race for Treasurer

Meanwhile, as it relates to treasurer, Kensington executive and former member of the JCA finance committee member, Nigel Logan, will run on Wright's ticket, and will square off with St Mary's Derrick Worrell.

Incumbent Westmoreland's Cleveland Kedoo, who is on the Campbell ticket, and St Eliza-beth's Dr Donovan Bennett will be seeking the post of second vice-president.

The posts of assistant secretary and assistant treasurer will be contested by St Mary's Jeanette Rose-Brown and Melbourne's Derron Dixon, respectively, as part of Campbell's team, and St James' Ian Brown and St Mary's Maurice Clarke, respectively, on Wright's.
