Below are comments posted by online readers of www.jamaica-gleaner.com regarding the Sunday Gleaner story, 'Politics captured by incompetents'.

Businessmen looking out for themselves

The abandonment of the political process by the business class, upper class and middle class started in the 1970s with the five flights a day to Miami. In my view, the PSOJ only shows an interest when it wants something.

As incompetent as the politicians are, at least they came forward to serve.

PSOJ is self-serving

By now everyone should know that the PSOJ is self-serving and its god is the bottom line. Also, it must be obvious by now that the Government and private sector are diametrically opposed. I'm pretty sure that since the last election was run, many PSOJ members are now reaping the reward of their 'investments'. When the US threatened to revoke visas, notice how vociferous some people became?

I fully agree, though, that people should be qualified for the jobs they apply for.

The country needs cooperation

Jamaica would be much better if we had more involvement from people who are capable leaders, who are willing to engage well-thinking Jamaicans with good economic ideas, and put a stop to the high level of crime and violence in the society.

We need leaders who represent Jamaica's long-term interests and who encourage entrepreneurship and provide security for people who are doing the right thing. Jamaica has the talent to emerge a prosperous country. All the country needs is the cooperation of everyone!

Poisonous policies

Over the decades since Independence, the political directorate has been incompetent and is fearful that individual citizens could amass power through wealth creation. The political parties have enunciated that they are for the poor with platitudinous statements, while serving a policy mix as toxic to wealth creation and growth as arsenic to human health.

Both parties have wasted taxpayers' money with their foray into business, with the attendant outcomes of failure. Air Jamaica and the LNG initiative are but a few of these projects.
