Sachana Beepot enters the fray

Young artiste undaunted by scale of Jamaica Jazz and Blues

It may be her biggest assignment to date, but singer Sachana Beepot said she is not nervous about her appearance at this week's Jazz and Blues Festival.

In fact, she seemed more anxious about pitching her latest song, Come On Baby Tonight.

"I think it's a good song and has the quality to go places," Beepot said last week.

Come On Baby Tonight was produced by Daniel Singer who has worked with the Dubtonic Kru band. Recorded early this month, Beepot said the song is scheduled to be released in February.

Latest release

It is the latest release by the former Haile Selassie High School head girl. Her previous song, Everywhere I Go, was produced by the veteran Winston 'Niney' Holness whose legendary Observer label has Dennis Brown's Westbound Train, Cassandra and Wolves and Leopards in its catalogue.

Beepot cut her first song, I'm In The Club, several years ago for producer Jimmy Hinds, but there was a lull before she linked with Holness to do Everywhere I Go.

She is working with the Observer label which recently relaunched in Kingston.

The 24-year-old Beepot hails from the Three Miles area of Kingston, which has produced numerous dancehall and reggae stars including Super Cat, Frankie Paul, Early B and The Meditations.

While making the studio rounds, Beepot worked as a court reporter at the Half-Way Tree Resident Magistrate's court.
