Swedish relay, 2k steeplechase for Youngster Goldsmith Classic
The Swedish medley relay, which was run during the last IAAF World Youth Championships, and the 2000m steeplechase open for high schools boys and girls, with the water jump, will be among the events for this Saturday's staging of the 14th annual Gatorade Youngster Goldsmith National Athletic Classic, at the Usain Bolt track, UWI Bowl, Mona.
According to a press release that was issued by the meet organisers on Monday, the events will mark the first time the two events will be contested at a Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association-sanctioned development meet.
The Swedish relay differs a bit from the traditional medley relay, with the first-leg runner running 100 metres, the second 200m, the third 300m and the fourth 400m, thus making the total length of the race one kilometre.
Qualifying meet
The classic, which will again be a qualifying meet for the ISSA Boys and Girls' Athletics Championship, in addition to the Swedish relay and steeplechase, is slated to offer several other firsts that are aimed at making the experience one of a kind for athletes, officials and spectators.
The other firsts include the 100m event on a synthetic track and with electronic timing this season, as well as the first to offer heats and finals in a track event (all hurdles events are heats and finals) this season.
Other events that will be contested include sprint and intermediate hurdles, 100m, 400m,1500m and a sprint medley relays, as well as all field events.
