There has been a buzz of excitement in boxing circles since word hit the streets on Monday that one of the crowd favourites, Tsetsi Davis, will be making his debut in the Wray and Nephew Contender boxing series at the Chinese Benevolent Association auditorium tonight.

Fight time is 8:30 and there will be a live broadcast on TVJ, starting at 9:30 p.m.

Davis, who represents the Yellow Team, will be going up against Terron Leslie from the Green Team and the hope is that he will give his team a well-needed victory.

They now trail the Green Team 1-4 in the 15-week championships and, after tonight's show, there will only be two more weeks to go to end the eight-fight preliminary round.

This will leave eight boxers in the mix and they will battle over eight rounds for four weeks.

Promoted by MJK Productions with permission from the Jamaica Boxing Board of Control (JBBC), the series, which is designed to produce the new middleweight boxing champion of Jamaica, is sponsored by J. Wray and Nephew, Claro and TVJ.

The Yellow Team has not been doing well in the boxing matches and tonight's contest will really be a do-or-die affair for them.

Davis said yesterday he hates that his team continues to lose and is determined to end their losing streak, noting that he will take good credentials and a fierce determination into the ring with him tonight.

He was one of Jamaica's most successful amateur boxers and has a 5-1 professional record. He has beaten four of the combatants in the Contender series.

Opponent

His opponent, Leslie, is not as experienced, but is known to pack a punch. Word on the street, therefore, is that his best bet tonight is to try for an early knock-out victory.

A lot will depend on what transpires in the early rounds. Davis is known to be patient and usually takes time to size-up his opponent. That will quite likely be the pattern tonight, as he takes a round or two to see what Leslie brings to the table.

If the fight goes to the third round, one can safely predict that fireworks will start. Indications are that it will be a bruising battle.

It is interesting to note that only one fight has gone the distance so far in the series.

There will also be two amateur bouts on the card tonight.
