One goal enough for title-chasing duo

Defending champions Cavalier and August Town eked out crucial 1-0 victories over Real Mona and Rockfort, respectively, in Saturday's round of matches in the Claro/Kingston and St Andrew Football Association Super League, as the race for title heads down the home stretch.

With four rounds of matches remaining in the competition, Cavalier (41 points) hold a one-point lead ahead of August Town (40).

Interestingly, both teams are set to face off in the penultimate game of the season, in two weeks' time.

Donovan Alvaranga scored the lone goal for Cavalier in the 14th minute, to lead his team to victory at Buttercup Park.

81st minute goal

August Town, who were demoted from top-flight football last season, were led to their win courtesy of an 81st minute strike from substitute Gee Daley, at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Bowl.

Rockfort remained fourth in the standings on 29, while Real Mona are third from bottom on 15.

Meanwhile, the title hopes of third-place UWI (35) suffered a setback when they were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom-place Duhaney Park (12).

Adriano Weir gave Duhaney Park the lead at the 17th minute, while Mikhail Hewitt handed the Neville 'Bertis' Bell-coached UWI the equaliser in the 84th.

In the day's highest scoring encounter Santos (28), led by a brace from Kenrick Preston, thrashed Bull Bay (16) 4-0 at the Bell-Chung Oval. Preston netted in the 17th and 26th minute. Alexi Dobson (38th) and Dasha Satchwell (81st) were the other scorers.

Rae Town (26) whipped Constant Spring (16) 3-0 at Breezy Castle, with Hughall Lawson (16th), Adrian Williams (67th) and Mario McDonald (84th) scoring, while Mountain View United (23) edged Barbican (18) 1-0 at the Barbican field.
