Honduras clip Barbados

Honduras had to dig deep to secure a come-from-behind 2-1 win against Barbados in their Group D CONCACAF Under-17 Champion-ship football fixture, in the opening game of a double-header at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Catherine Hall yesterday.

Barbados took the lead in the 15th minute when Zarl Prescod fired past the Honduras custodian.

Honduras drew level in 62nd minute through Bryan Rochez and then sealed victory through Eder Valasque, who netted in stoppage time.

"We played badly and the Barbados team might feel unlucky that we got all three points," said Honduras' coach Israel Canales. "We will definitely have to regroup and give an improved performance in our next game."

B'dos take lead

After looking quite smooth in the opening exchanges and surprising Honduras with their pace, Barbados took the lead in the 15th minute when Prescod found space behind the defence and fired the ball past goalkeeper Allan Torres, making the half-time score 1-0.

Honduras started the second half looking quite positive and they were rewarded in the 62nd minute. Rochez capitalised on an error in the Barbados defence and fired past the goalkeeper from six yards, making the score 1-1.

With time ticking away in the game and a draw looking the likely result, Honduras snatched victory a minute into extra time. Valasquez went high to meet a corner kick and nodded home easily, making the final score 2-1.

"We started well but lost focus during the game and it cost us," said Barbados' coach Kenville Layne. "It is not over yet, we plan to bounce back and hopefully get a win in our next game."
