Online feedback
Below is some of the feedback from our online readers to yesterday's story titled 'Phillips, Phipps clash over MOUs'.
Address the real issues
Frank Phipps and Peter Phillips went on for two days about a couple of MOUs. Why? Granted that Peter Phillips may have abused his position when he was minister of national security, but the decisions taken by this Government had nothing to do with any of those MOUs.
They extradited people under those same understandings and nothing was heard from them. When it was Coke's time to face the music, they simply wanted to protect their strongman in the west Kingston constituency. Stop this outlandish fiasco. Let the commission attend to the real facts: Why did the Government/Jamaica Labour Party hire a US law firm to thwart the extradition process?

Secret MOUs and our rights
The mandatory 60 days in jail before charge aroused the entire society, especially the human-rights lobbies. They were not willing to give up any rights at the expense of security, yet the details of the MOUs being discussed haven't aroused their interest.
We are told it doesn't affect our rights, even though it is top secret. How will we know if it is so?

Where is the clown?
Most assuredly, the Manatt-Coke enquiry is definitely a dog-and-pony show. But, quite interestingly, the clown has not testified to date, and everyone is definitely waiting for the major act on the part of the clown. Go figure!

Speaking freely
What will be interesting to see are the efforts to prevent the current minister of national security from saying much. Matters of national security are serious business to protect the country. Tweety Bird will be protected by the Jamaica Labour Party lawyers like a hawk. Yet the MOUs were bared to the public. How inconsistent!
It is amusing to now see the prime minister's lawyer objecting to the placing of the documents before the public when he did no such thing when they first came before the commission. He and Phipps were quite prepared to talk about them quite freely.
Somebody got smart after The Gleaner's stand. Bruce should be ashamed to have allowed them to be used so carelessly in the first place.
