Trainer 'Bigga' Gordon dead at 60

Racing lost one of its veteran trainers with the passing of Lloyd 'Bigga' Gordon on Wednesday morning. He died at the University of the West Indies Hospital after a short illness at age 60.

Gordon conditioned horses at Caymanas Park for 30 years, but he always kept a small string. He saddled three winners last year, the last of which was ERGASIA on December 22, over 1600 metres, as the favourite.

Quiet and unassuming Gordon, who saddled 74 winners in his career, was respected by his peers. His best-known horses in terms of races won were BIG BRAVE and GLITTER CLEARANCE.

Ideal horseman

Reacting to his death, the executive and members of the Richie Todd-led United Racehorse Trainers' Association of Jamaica said it deeply regrets "the passing of our brother, veteran trainer Lloyd Gordon.

"Bigga, as he was affectionately called, was a gentle giant whose love and passion symbolises the tenacity of purpose of an ideal horseman."

Also extending their condolences were the Vin Edwards-led Jamaica Racehorse Trainers' Association and Caymanas Track Limited.
