Sigma Run to raise funds for VJH unit

The 13th staging of the Pan-Caribbean Sigma Corporate Run will hit the streets of Kingston tomorrow morning.
The event, which has also grown to become a symbol of social responsibility and healthy lifestyle, is scheduled to start 7:30 a.m., with warmup activities and positioning to start from a hour earlier.
Held annually to raise funds for a national charity, the event is this year expected to attract a record crowd of close to 15,000 participants, who will either run, walk, or compete in a wheelchair.
Growth
"Starting with 297 finishers in 1997, the 2011 Sigma Corporate Run has now grown to be the largest single road-running event in the Caribbean and Central America," said event cocordinator, Alfred 'Franno' Francis in a release.
"This has been achieved through consistent and excellent partnerships," he added.
The run, which will in addition to individual action feature corporate categories, will see participants covering the distance of 5.6 kilometre (3.5 miles), beginning at Knutsford Boulevard and ending at Emancipation Park, New Kingston.
It will also see the organisers, which also includes the National Health Fund and Reggae Marathon, aiming to raise $15 million for the Victoria Jubilee Hospital's neonatal care unit.
