Moodie's magic

Though he has hung up his race car driving gloves for more than a decade, Peter 'Jacko' Moodie continues to positively impact motor racing in Jamaica.
His dedication and hard work was evident last Sunday at the Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston, when his protégés made a clean sweep of the go-kart events.
"It was a great day for us," said Moodie, who explained that his team would always be focussed on the sport and not just on winning.
Undoubtedly, one of the country's most successful motor racing drivers, Moodie believes Jamaica is truly talented in every sporting discipline, especially in go-kart racing in which some of the young karters have been doing well on the Florida circuit.
"It is really amazing when you look at our (local karters') limited resources, compared to our counterparts on the Florida circuit, and see how the Jamaicans have been performing. It is really amazing," said Moodie.
Great potential
He charged that young karters like Thomas Issa, Frazer McConnell, Collin Daley Jr, Jonathan Law, William Myers, among other talents, have the potential to go a far way.
"Right now I am giving back to the sport as much as I can," said Moodie, who is also rated among the best mechanics in the country.
Last Sunday, promising Hillel High schoolboy, 12-year-old McConnell, registered a hat-trick of wins in the Rotax Mini-Max Class. It was his best performance since getting hooked to the sport about three years ago. Earlier in the day, Jonathan Law qualified with the fastest lap time of 58.658 seconds in the class.
Red Bull-sponsored Collin Daley Jr easily dominated the Rotax Junior Class, winning all three races. He had the best lap time of 57.525 seconds during the qualifying session.
"Collin is talented and I believe that later down the years, we could see him competing in Europe," said Moodie.
His son, Peter Moodie Jr, stamped his authority in the Rotax Masters Class, winning all three races.
Interim president of the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA), Peter Rae, described the meet as successful and filled with entertaining motoring activities.
