Online feedback

Below are comments from readers of www.jamaica-gleaner.com in response to the story titled 'Amend airport search policy, protect children, says Blaine', published in The Gleaner on February 22.

Is there a policy?

The first question must be: Is there a policy?

Does it cover searching the persons who work in the airport too? How are these persons screened to eliminate pervs?

What about full-body scanners, sniffer dogs and swab-testing machines?

no protection

I'm happy things like these are coming out in the public. I can't even allow my daughter's mom here in England to see this article, because she would be so mad, as I've been travelling to Jamaica with my six-year-old daughter since she was 11/2 years old.

I'm a different dad, as I would never allow my daughter out of my sight. The flight would have to leave me!

Being an ex-member of the force in Jamaica, I know a lot of the freaky stuff these guys are adopting from overseas, but the difference is that these countries do a lot to protect their youngsters. Justice needs to be done!

Unfair treatment

More needs to be done to make sure those in power and in such roles should themselves be screened to check if they are of sound mind and not of a cloudy past!

Police checks need to be done on those who carry out such searches in order to protect children, as well as the public at large! It is common sense that parents should be with their children when this is being done.

Would they like it if that was being done to their child without their consent and not being there themselves to oversee the body check?

the good suffer

What about those who were loading diapers with drugs? The good sometimes have to suffer for the bad. Sorry about this woman and her daughter, though.
