Cavalier, August Town in mammoth showdown

Defending champions Cavalier will meet August Town in a football match which could decide the winner of this year's Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Claro Super League title, at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Bowl, starting at 2 p.m. this afternoon.

With three rounds of matches remaining in the competition, Cavalier lead the standings with 44 points, one ahead of August Town (44). They are followed by third-place UWI (35) who will meet Bull Bay (17) in the feature game of the double-header at 4 p.m.

Cavalier will enter today's contest bubbling with confidence, following their 2-0 victory over August Town earlier this season. The David Laylor-coached Cavalier are also coming off an impressive 4-0 victory in their last encounter, over Barbican.

"I am very confident that we can beat them tomorrow (today), but we just have to ensure that we maintain our discipline throughout the entire game," said Laylor.

He added: "We are expecting a tough game from them because they are playing at home, and they will have their home supporters behind them.

"However, we are not perturbed by this, and so we are just going there to do what we have to do to win the game," Laylor said.

exciting 4-3 victory

August Town recorded an exciting 4-3 victory over Mountain View United in their last game. Marlon Small, manager of the Michael 'Blacka Mikes' McIntosh-coached team that was demoted from top-flight football last season, said his players are ready and raring to go.

"We are confident going to this game because the players are in good nick, good shape and we haven't lost a game since the second," Small said.

"I think that seeing the closeness of the title race, a win for anyone of these teams will definitely go a far way to decide who wins the Super League title, but I am sure we will come out the victors," he stated.

Striker Ricardo Monroe, along with Aphas Bernard, Gee Daley and Dwayne Plummer, will lead August Town's charge for a victory, while Cavalier's attacks will be led by Fabian Nethersole, who netted a hat-trick last week, Donovan Alvaranga, Kirk Fletcher and Patrick Edmonson.

In the day's other games, all set to kick off at 3:30 p.m., Rae Town (26) will host Rockfort (29) at Breezy Castle, Santos (29) entertain Mountain View United (22) at the Bell Chung Oval, Barbican (21) await Real Mona (15) at Barbican and Duhaney Park (15) will host Constant Spring (19) at Baldwin Crescent.
