Education key to economic success - CARICOM
UNITED NATIONS (CMC):
Caribbean Community (CARICOM) ministers and senior officials say that education is the 'gateway' to economic opportunity and the key means for unlocking women's potential.
In addressing the United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women, during its high-level review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and the outcome of the General Assembly's 23rd special session on gender equality, development and peace for the 21st century, the ministers affirmed education's unique "multiplier effect".
They said it is a powerful driver of economic development and a decisive catalyst in the promotion of peace and equality.
It also has the power to reduce child and maternal mortality, and increase entrepreneurship and job opportunities, while also helping reduce violence against women and girls, they said.
