August Town humble Cavalier

August Town recorded a crucial 2-0 victory over defending champions Cavalier to move to the top of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/Claro Super League competition at the University of the West Indies Bowl on Saturday.

With two rounds of matches remaining in the competition, August Town, who were demoted from the top-flight Premier League competition last season, lead the standings with 46 points, two ahead of Cavalier (44). It is the first time since the start of the competition that Cavalier have surrendered the lead and sets up a mouth-watering finale as both teams hunt a spot in the Premier League play-off tournament.

Nicholas Smith (63rd) and Gee Daley (84th), were the goal scorers for the Michael 'Blacka Mikes' McIntosh-coached, August Town.

After the contest, McIntosh said he was delighted with his team's efforts.

"It was a good performance from us today (Saturday) because Cavalier have been leading the competition from the start, but we went out and we did what we had to do and win the game," said McIntosh.

He added: "I am feeling very good now that we are in front, but now is the time that we have to take things serious because we have two rounds to go and we cannot get complacent."

David Laylor player/coach of Cavalier, was as expected, very disappointed with his team's performance.

"I think that August Town wanted it more than us and in the end you saw the result," said Laylor. "Cavalier didn't play our style of game because we sit back too much, we didn't do what we should have done and so we paid the price for that," Laylor explained.

August Town seem to have the easier run-in of both the teams as they are scheduled to play Real Mona and Barbican in their remaining matches while Cavalier have a tricky pair of games against Rae Town and Santos to look forward to.

In the day's other games, third place UWI (38) defeated Bull Bay (17) 2-0. Shamari Glanville (25th ) and Andre Bernal (58th), were the goals scorers for the Neville 'Bertis' Bell-coached UWI.

Mountain View United (25) beat Santos (29) at the Bell Chung Oval; Rockfort (32) edged Rae Town (26) 2-1 at Breezy Castle; Barbican (22) and Real Mona (16) played to a 1-1 draw at the Barbican field and Constant Spring (20) and Duhaney Park (16) also played to a 1-1 draw at Baldwin Crescent.
