August Town seek crucial win

Leaders August Town appear poised to maintain their the lead atop the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/Claro Super League points standings, when they face bottom-place Real Mona at Buttercup Park in today's penultimate round of matches, starting at 3 p.m.

August Town lead the standings with 46 points, two ahead of defending champions Cavalier (44), who they defeated 2-0 last week to take the lead. Real Mona are at the bottom of the table on 16 points.

As they near the finishing pole and have picked up momentum from last week's potentially title-deciding win, the Michael 'Blacka Mikes' McIntosh-coached August Town will enter today's match full of confidence.

Additionally, they had beaten Real Mona 3-1 in an earlier confrontation this season.

"Our plan is to continue along this track in order for us to accomplish the feat of winning the Super League title," said McIntosh.

"We are not going to take them (Real Mona) lightly because we are aware of their position and the importance of them gaining three points, and so we have to stayed focused in order to maintain our position at the top," McIntosh added.

August Town will rest their hopes in the hands of striker Ricardo Monroe, along with Aphas Bernard, Nicholas Smith and Gee Daley.

Cavalier, who still stand an outside chance of catching the leaders, will face a tricky contest when they host arch-rivals Santos at Constant Spring Sports Complex.

Tough game

David Laylor, the player/coach of Cavalier, said: "It is not over until the final whistle is blown, and so anything can happen because there are still two games left to play."

Laylor added: "It is going be a tough game, but I believe that we will come out on top because we have a good record at home and so we expect to win this game."

Cavalier will rest their hopes in the hands of striker Fabian Nethersole, who is the second-leading scorer in the competition with 16 goals, along with midfielders Horace Sharpe, Donovan Alvaranga and Kirk Fletcher.

In the day's other games, Duhaney Park (16), who are ahead of Real Mona in the standings on goal difference, will play away to Barbican (22) at the Barbican field; 10th-place Bull Bay (17) will entertain ninth-place Constant Spring (20) at Bull Pen; third-place University of the West Indies (38) will oppose fourth-place Rockfort (32) at Rockfort, while Mountain View United (22) will host Rae Town (26) at Courtney Walsh Oval, Excelsior High School.
