Same approach, say Irish

BANGALORE, India:

All-rounder John Mooney says Ireland will take the same approach to tomorrow's match against India as they did in the team's shock win over England at the World Cup.

Mooney told reporters yesterday that his upbeat team would be looking for another victory when it takes on the co-host in Group B, and would not worry about either pleasing or disappointing people after beating England on Wednesday.

"I don't know what the team plans are right now, but we are going to go out there and try and win,'' Mooney said. "India have some fantastic players - but we, too, have some good players.''

The 29-year-old Mooney bagged 4-63 and struck an unbeaten 33 on Wednesday as Ireland overhauled England's total of 327-8 with five balls to spare in one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history.

He does not think the feat will mean any extra pressure to perform against India.

"Our expectations will always be the same, that is to try and win,'' said Mooney. "There is no different message, rather, exactly the same attitude against Bangladesh, England, and now India.

"We have our own expectations and what other people expect does not come into our camp ... . We will not put pressure on ourselves. Our team is not worrying about living up to others' expectations.''

Mooney's was the second best contribution on Wednesday behind Kevin O'Brien, whose 63-ball 113 set the pace for the chase.
